“What if” What if I chose this decision that night? What if I hadn’t done this? Our lives take the paths they do based on the decisions we make, so what if we had decided differently? That is exactly what this 5 star read is all about and that no matter what choices we do make, ultimately our lives come together as they should, maybe a bit differently had we gone down certain paths, but it will always work out in the end.
From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results.
At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabby’s guestroom. Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.
Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?
In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate?
Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes she’s found him.
Ive spent a great deal of my life wondering what would happen if i chose one path over another, one guy over another. I often think to myself that perhaps there is another version of me out there that followed the other path, and where would I be now? So to see what I have thought about only a million times in the pages of this book was like an out of body experience. TJR just knew that everyone must feel this way! There were quite a few things that were a bit predictable but reading each story line as they played out kept pulling me in. I wanted, no needed, to know the end of each story, of each decision and path. Each ending left me satisfied. That again no matter what path we choose it all works out the way it is meant too. I can’t even say i preferred one ending over another. Hannah is just one lucky girl in both of her lives!
This was a “in one day” sorta read. I truly believe that if you’re like me and often wonder ‘what if’, can’t make a decision at all because you just don’t know which is the right one, that this read is for you. It gives you hope that no matter your choice you will be ok, and your life will fall together the way it is fated too!
