Do we ever truly know the people we are closest too? Best Friends Forever explores the haunting realities of the deception and lies of those closest to us all while keeping the reader guessing until the very end, “who dun it?” A quick read because you won’t want to put it down, I rate this thriller 4 stars!
Kat Grant and Alice Campbell have a friendship forged in shared confidences and long lunches lubricated by expensive wine. Though they’re very different women—the artsy socialite and the struggling suburbanite—they’re each other’s rocks. But even rocks crumble under pressure. Like when Kat’s financier husband, Howard, plunges to his death from the second-floor balcony of their South Florida mansion.
Howard was a jerk, a drunk, a bully and, police say, a murder victim. The questions begin piling up. Like why Kat has suddenly gone dark: no calls, no texts and no chance her wealthy family will let Alice see her. Why investigators are looking so hard in Alice’s direction. Who stands to get hurt next. And who is the cool liar—the masterful manipulator behind it all.
Oh wow I enjoyed this book! I got hooked in chapter one and I didn’t get fully sucked in for a few chapters, but by that time it was, “see ya later world I’ll resurface when I am done”
I had initial thoughts on where this would lead, but ultimately my thoughts kept changing as the book progressed and dragged me deeper into this thriller. One of the things I enjoyed about this read was the pacing of the whole story. It wasn’t slow, but it wasn’t obviously fast either. Little things would just come to light or story lines would make me question my original predictions and after each chapter I just wanted to know more and more. I was never left in a dry spell where I felt I hadn’t read anything pertinent to the story line or the writing in a certain chapter hadn’t gripped me. I was glued to the book all the way through and the subtle hints or foreshadowing made me read faster.
Alice and Kat were both extremely well written characters, both very different women and yet both equally intriguing. I also loved all the mentions of Harry Potter, because who doesn’t love a thriller that can use a you-know-who moment and turn it into something Harry Potter related.
I will say I wasn’t mind blown by the ending yet I was a bit surprised by some things and how everything played out. It was pretty well done and I love that it just left me guessing until the end. Looking back on some of the moments in the book, now that I know the end, I can’t help but think some of the dialogue was actually intended for one character rather than the other. Vague I know but its a thriller so I am not giving anything away! Either way I love that this book made me think even after I finished, good sign I’d say.
Out now, be sure to go out and pick it up and add this awesome new thriller to your shelf!
