Bone Music by Christopher Rice *Review*

Thank you so much Amazon Publishing and LMS for sending me a copy of Christopher Rice’s new novel in exchange for an honest review.  I really enjoyed Bone Music, it was completely unique and very refreshing.  I haven’t read a story quite like this one and it made it that much more engrossing.  A badass female lead with a dark history, entertaining side characters, thrills mixed with science, all elements that added to make this a four star read!  I can’t wait to see where this series goes.

“Imagine witnessing a murder before you know what death is…”

Goodreads Synopsis

There’s more than one way to stoke the flames of revenge…

Charlotte Rowe spent the first seven years of her life in the hands of the only parents she knew—a pair of serial killers who murdered her mother and tried to shape Charlotte in their own twisted image. If only the nightmare had ended when she was rescued. Instead, her real father exploited her tabloid-ready story for fame and profit—until Charlotte finally broke free from her ghoulish past and fled. Just when she thinks she has buried her personal hell forever, Charlotte is swept into a frightening new ordeal. Secretly dosed with an experimental drug, she’s endowed with a shocking new power—but pursued by a treacherous corporation desperate to control her.

Except from now on, if anybody is going to control Charlotte, it’s going to be Charlotte herself. She’s determined to use the extraordinary ability she now possesses to fight the kind of evil that shattered her life—by drawing a serial killer out from the shadows to face the righteous fury of a victim turned avenger.

My Experience

From the first sentence I was pulled into this book.  I love thrillers, but quick paced ones with darker back stories.  This fit the bill perfectly.  It gave that creepy thriller feel right away and as the story progressed it added in sci-fi elements that made it that much more layered.  I also think the overall plot of this story is so relevant to todays times and relatable as a woman. The idea of giving women the power to fight back attackers will surely capture the attention of many readers and I can’t wait to see where this series will go.

Charlotte was a great character.  She has such a dark history, but how she handles her life going forward is so interesting.  She hid away for years after what happened to her and now has the ability to over take killers like the ones who first kidnapped her and she isn’t going to let the chance pass her by.  I also really liked Marty, Luke and especially Bailey who we actually have yet to fully meet.  I enjoyed the villains as well, and its kind of questionable to if they truly are villains or not since they seem to have good intentions.  The main serial killer villain though was disgusting yet so real, he was so well written.

The only down part was at times the story was confusing and the ending was a bit lackluster, although I assume that was because he wants to set up the next book in the series.

Christopher Rice has hooked me and I am ready to follow this series until the end.  Can the next book just be out already??  Give this a read if you’re a fan of thrillers or sic-fi  you won’t be disappointed!
